What If...We Blame So We Don't Have to Feel the Harder Emotions?

I worked with a client who's daughter passed away and her sister didn't come to the funeral. She didn't know why her sister hadn't come but she was preoccupied with blame towards her sister. It consumed her thoughts and her anger continued to strengthen.

As we worked on this situation it became clear that she was full of blame towards her sister as a protection from feeling her own grief about the loss of her daughter.

It was easier for her to feel the anger towards her sister than to feel her own sadness and loss.

  • Where in your life are you using blame and anger to cover up emotions that are more difficult to feel?

  • How might it serve you better to learn to feel your emotions rather than cover them up?
